The name Papier Mache is derived from the the French word Papier means Paper and Mache means Chewed. It means Compressed or smashed paper. A substance made of pulped paper mixed with glue and other materials or of layers of paper glued and pressed together, molded when moist to technique various articles, and becoming hard and strong when dry. In Kashmir papier-mâché has been used to make small painted boxes, bowls lined with metals, trays etc. Japan and China also make laminated paper articles using papier-mâché.
