A small village named Naini in Uttar Pradesh state is the chief producer of Moonj wild grass product. Moonj and Kaasa are the types of wild grass that abundantly grows near the banks of the river. The source of Moonj craft has nearly 60 to 70 years of customary history in Allahabad. At first the Kaasa grass is dried and it is wrapped with the moonj grass by rolling around Kaasa. The motifs of basketry are made by adding colored grass in between. The Moonj grass products are ideal to use regularly . These natural products can be used as containers, food storage container and wall decorators. The products are very simple, beautiful and eco-friendly. The Moonj craft also has a customary significance as the finishing products are given as gifts for women in customary functions and weddings.
